Today I had to take a trip into town for a mid-morning London meeting. Staring idly out of the window as the train crossed the Thames I was suddenly struck by a rather interesting thought.

Wouldn't it be a great idea for the moles to take a trip down the river Jerome K Jerome style? This time, instead of employing a boat we could make good use of the towpath to follow the Thames into town, and being somewhat less ambitious we could try starting from Kingston and do the whole round trip in a day instead of tempting fate and challenging friendships with a multi day affair.

I've no idea of the distance or the logistics of the route (is it one towpath on one side, does it alternate between banks or are there sections where the road is the only option?) but I just thought it would make a change. I'm guessing it would be relatively easy on the legs but varied in terms of sights and sounds so it would be worth taking the camera to record our progress.

Anyway, watch this space - I think I could be onto something and inevitably, there'd be a pub at the end of it.
