On-One Inbred 29er (slot dropout) singlespeed

My 29er was the first of the batch that On-One sold as complete bikes at the end of 2007.

Orange Five custom (Dave's 5!)
Based on a custom Red with sparkle lacquer frame my 5 is made from a mixture of old and new bits.

On One Inbred 456 in New Blue
This was a bit of an impulse purchase and the frame replaced a 456 in "That Blue" but bought mainly because the cable routing was under the top tube as opposed to on top.

Ridley Excalibur - Off-topic?

Nope, you haven't come to the wrong page. It's a road bike! Some of us do regularly cross over to "the dark side"

Clockwork Orange 2007 - shades at the ready

I always fancied a steel Clockwork Orange first time around. So when Orange realeased a limit run of 200 updated steel Clockwork Oranges a couple of years ago I hunted across the UK to find one. Subtle it isn't!

Marin Muirwoods - freak bike

While we're on the subject of 'repurposed' bikes, we may as well cover my freak bike.

Marin Nail Trail - Project Bumblebee

So I wanted another bike. One to use on the Tarmac.

Orange Five 2009

This is Rob's replacement for the Santa Cruz he trashed on the roof rack of his car! Watch out for car park height restrictions… although as it turns out, this is one hell of a replacement.

Specialized Pitch Pro

Having said on countless occasions that I'm a die-hard hardtail fan, after a trip to Wales in Feb this year and trying to keep up with others on full-sussers, I was convinced I needed to think a bit more laterally!
With such a great spec out of the box, the Pitch was an absolute bargain and I took heart in the many great press reviews. At the money it's cost me, I really don't need to feel guilty about it being my plaything so the conscience is relatively clear.

A Star is Born
Whilst many of our ilk are popping out children at an alarming rate (just have a look at DoMTB if you’re unaware), I’ve decided 3 kids is more than plenty and my broodishness of late has been for a bike. So, with the assistance of Matt and Dave, Friday night saw us ‘delivering’ my new Inbred singlespeed in my kitchen, with my wife’s blessing.

dialled bikes Prince Albert review - are you Dialled?
(More Prince Albert photos can be found on Flickr.)
As a relative newbie to this all-consuming sport, I soon found myself thinking after a few months of owning my Giant XTC that it would be fun to upgrade. So, first the forks and then some months later came Mavic 321 wheels and Formula Oro brakes.

There was some science behind the upgrading – I knew in my heart a new bike would be not too far round the corner and the parts would be transferred over. If only my national lottery number selection was as predictable.

2007 Orange Five
After what seems an eternity waiting, and with a few mishaps along the way, it's time to announce that I have now taken delivery of my new 2007 Orange Five SE from Cycleworks in Leatherhead. Thank God for that I hear everyone say, perhaps now he'll stop banging on about it.

Well, perhaps. Certainly I've felt like a contestant on a game of Japanese Endurance at times but now the bike is here I have to say I'm very pleased about it.

2005 On-one Inbred
Having ridden my Inbred sparingly over the past year since I built it up around April 2006 I haven't really felt I was in a position to comment on it.

Things were made more complicated by the fact that On-one now offer the 456 Inbred and more recently the On-one slot dropout frame. In other words, my classic white Inbred, corrected for 100mm forks is now effectively a bit old skool.
However, I've now started to put the miles on the bike and with On-one still offering a 'not sliding dropout' complete bike on their website I think it's still valid to give a brief description here about my latest hardtail.

The tale of two mech hangers
So I know you've all been waiting for the review of my new Orange 5, the build, the birth but I don't expect many of you were expecting the rapid death either...

Does this Orange count toward my Five a day?
Either that or they just have got it right.
The deed has been done, 16" and sparkle laquer on a Passion Red base coat. I'm pimping the Five up so much I may well have Huggy Bear knocking on my door asking me to ease off.

4” good, over 5” better!!!
It's all in the travel as far as I'm concerned. My beloved white Inbred is dead, long live the Inbred!

My word, that's a long one!
Now I love my Inbred. In a manly sort of way you understand.
It's a great frame, comfortable and with the Marzocchi Marathon S forks it'll look after me on anything I try. However, 100mm of travel isn't enough for some people!

2003 On-one Inbred

I bought the bike to get back to the hard tail experience and haven't really looked back, but it is very different to the East Peak.

1998 Marin Muirwoods

I feel very nostalgic about this bike as it was the first 'proper' MTB I owned.

2003 Cove Handjob

Thomas bought himself a new bike after his Orange UFO committed hari kari in 2003 by chewing up its rear wheel and derailleur leaving him to look for a 'cheap' frame to get mobile again.

1998 Marin East Peak

This was my second Marin after a brief spell with a Muirwoods (same as Matt’s). I wanted to go full suss and loved the way the bike rode - still do.

1999 Marin Nail Trail

I needed to get off my fully rigid £180 Free Spirit Kielder and onto something with a modicum of "MTB" about it. Fortunately, a deal was struck with a mate of Dave's who hadn't really done much with his bike and I ended up with this near unused Nail Trail at a bargain price.

2003 Marin Rift Zone

In January 2003 I decided it was time to find out what the fuss was all about with full suspension bikes and turned naturally enough to Marin.
