So then, what do people think. I think there may be mud tomorrow.

I was thinking something more XC.

Sounds like a plan , it would be nice to do 25 to 30 miles. Maybe Newlands ?

Plenty of puddles on the tracks this morning - at least it should be sunny again tomorrow morning. DC's Newlands loop sounds a good plan.

I was out for a pootle this morning in my new 'manor'. I was very glad I hadn't taken the Trailrakers off my On One. Headed up Hogden Lane, then Badger & Collarbone before heading off towards Effingham and Bookham Common via the descent from Crocknorth and the impossible climb (which was even more impossible than normal).

Given that heavy showers are forecast again for later, and the clouds are gathering now, then get those mud tyres back on this afternoon ;)

Cracking ride - at least the first 5.82 miles. At that point, I followed someone under an evergreen on a corner (to avoid some mud) and managed to whack my head on a branch. It caught on my helmet and twisted my head up and to the side before releasing.

I stopped to check that the helmet was OK, by which time the group was out of sight. I followed the trail to the first junction and asked some riders if they had seen you guys. They said you had dropped down, so I did the same and found myself at a gate by a farmer's field - which I think we passed on the way back from Peaslake. With no sign of anyone and remembering Lloyd's advice, I headed up to the junction I passed on the way down. As I was waiting, a headache and stiff neck came on so I decided to go all the way back up and turn back.

What followed was a circuitous jaunt on dirt and tarmac, and with the help of some walkers and roadies I found my way back to Bockett's. All in all, about 14 miles - the long 20% incline climb towards the end was particular fun. Hope the group didn't wait too long - sorry if this held you up.

Parkman - we are pleased to hear that you are OK. When we spotted you weren't with us - somewhat after the gate you got to - we all felt really bad we had lost you again. So it is good to hear that you are OK.

I think I know the corner you mean with the low hanging branch - I've come a cropper there a few times. Sounds like you successfully followed us on the Whitedown descent to the lower gate but if you could not see us there and didn't know the route you probably did the best thing in following Lloyd's advice.

This really isn't what usually happens - we tend to be pretty good at keeping new riders on track. Hopefully you will be out again soon and we will pay more attention.
