Hi guys - first post here, but I met a few of you briefly on Saturday on the Jedi bike skills day... I'm the one with a car which only just fits a bike :lol:

I'm looking to broaden the area I ride in. Would you mind if I tag along with you on Sunday? Hope I won't slow you down too much if so...

Chaps,
as it looks like there is a consensus for Swinley, I would suggest we go for the main car park - which is opposite the Coral Reef swimming centre car park.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&xhr=t&q=swinley+bracknell&cp=4&aq=0&aqi=&aql=&biw=1280&bih=631&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&wrapid=tlif134209740692110&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl
As previously, let's aim to park in the overfill style section nearest the road....so you drive through the main part of the car park and the bit I mean has a line of trees separating it form the main car park, thick growth between the road.

How about arriving 0815 to give 15mins faffage time for an 0830 departure from the carpark?

As most of you know you should only ride on Crown Estate if you have a permit. Permits help pay for the insurance and the trail upkeep. You can buy your permits here;

Andrewh - you are welcome to join us and from what I recall last time I went it shouln't be significantly more technical the the sort of things we did with the Jedi last week. Also, please note that we are not a club - we are a group of individuals that ride, mostly, in the same direction at, mostly, the same time. All riders accept individual responsibility for their actions.

No problem at all. Looking forward to seeing you then.

Also, would it be wise to exchange phone numbers in preparation for the unforeseen? If so perhaps someone could let me know who I can email / PM. Thanks.

Stainless steel bearings are the answer I think. Ideally coupled with waterproof grease.

I went to Swinley at the end of May after appalling weather and we all wore out our brake pads (even though we never seemed to go fast enough to use them).

Sorry if this is obvious:
If you have a SS take it . Post ride I used the mobi on both the bike and my bike gear. Do you have backpack cover ? Take it. Have a complete change of post-ride clothing in the car.

We found; the orange trails (Stickler, Seagull) best, some fireroads were almost rivers, note - in/under some deep puddles is thick mud. Tank Traps was good, Jump Gulley was terrible, Deerstalker was full of puddles. Cover 15 miles and it will seem like 30.

But, despite how seriously awful the mud and conditions were we all had a great time and it was very quiet.

P.S @Matt, I saw the Boss at Wembley in 1985 (I think) and still remember his 4+hour set. I am sure you will have a great time.
