Stuck at work tonight, looking at the fine evening outside and feeling exceedingly **cked off that I can't be out riding :(

As I shall be drinking a few beers on Sat night, and unlikely to make an early start on Sun morning, I'm planning a trip over to Swinley on Sat morning instead. I shall be armed with my trusty GPS unit to aid my challenged navigational skills. Anyone care to join me? Say 0830 at the Look Out centre car park.

As i can't do this sunday (due to a road event) i will try and do Saturday. In any event, am getting in the mileage locally in the build up to the SDW, so definitely see you between now and then.

Sorry Andy, but I cannot make it. :( I am already going on a local ride and my buddies have family commitments either before or after the ride which makes it difficult for them to get over to Swinley. It is going to be muddy but the Rebellion open weekend means that there will be lots of free beer at the brewery when I get back. ;)

No problem, Steven; I'm sure you will enjoy the beer.

Tommo - look for the silver Saab and my matching silver Pace. Let me know if you are / are not going to make it.

MarkyMark - likewise !

Love to do this Dandy but can't do Saturday mornings. How about lining up a Swinley trip for a Sunday soon?

Have a good ride.

Actually JR, you and I have an appointment with an uplift day at the Forest of Dean or UK Bike Park in Dorchester. Let's organise that for a Sunday fairly soon 8-)

Did we ever resolve which was the closest? I shall consult Google Maps and get back to you :)

Ok -just checked, and it's more or less a dead heat. Dorchester is 118 miles from my house and Mitcheldean is 120 miles. As the Forest of Dean DH tracks are before Mitcheldean, I'd call that a draw ;)

D’Andy – according to RAC routefinder from Bookham:
- Forest of Dean 130 miles, 2hr 15min (Cannop Cycle Centre)
- UK Bike Park: 100 miles, 1hr 37mins
So there is a bit over half an hour’s difference between them.

But a post on Singletrack Forum this afternoon says: “My mate rode there last saturday and said a lot of the park is being worked on and is closed, one dh run and some of the top section is open. They are working hard to get the place sorted so might be worth hanging on until they have sorted it to make your journey more worthwile.”

Sadly, I am off on holiday the last week of July so perhaps we should be thinking about mid or late August as a date?

PS perhaps I should borrow your "Seldom Seen Kid" tag - especially after seeing Elbow a couple of weeks ago?
