With much of the local area likely to have bridleways and roads closed I'm suggesting we abandon the ride.

I'll be heading down to try and see some of the race.

If anyone wants to organise a ride further afield the speak up but do bear in mind many of the roads shut around 6am.

Yes, I'll be taking a peek at the Olympic testers on Sunday too..

Was wondering if anyone was doing a local Bocketts ride 08.30 Saturday instead?

Just a thought..

Karl,
I do an early Saturday morning ride with a small group starting from my place in Bookham at 0745, it's about a mile from Bocketts. We normally do two or two and a half hours. If any regulars want to come along PM me for the address.

Wow. I headed out early yesterday morning on the road bike and had the best ever 2wheeled experience.

Initially trying to avoid road closures, i got fed up and asked a marshall if i could ride thro the barrier and was told it was only motorised vehicles they were instructed to stop, up to 1 hour before the event.

So i ended up riding chunks of the route with no cars, feeling like a much slower version of the real thing. There were people aleady there giving a wave and wondering who this muppet was.

Highlight was the return from oxshott where i rode the route in reverse, culminating in flying round the corner by leatherhead museum using the whole of the otherwise empty road.

Would be great to do this as a group next year, start very early from richmond park maybe?

Lets face it, it will be the only time our lives we can ride on our own closed roads, feeling like the pros. It will take a long time to come down from the high of yesterday.

I found it funny to see some spectators yesterday arrive without their bikes, with family, but dressed up in their full road lycra. :?

Funny breed these roadies

similar experience Colin, only on mountain bikes.

A few of us rode down the Mickey bends the wrong way, felt wrong expecting a car to come round the bend towards you
