I plan to be there. Hopefully things will have dried nicely after this morning’s moistening.

Just seen the weather…seems it has changed completely so I will make a decision in the morning. Not one to avoid rain but less than desirable for mechanical reasons.

Looks like I'll have to break my first rule of cycling* and leave the house in the rain.....although I think it's just stopped....

*As I'll be leaving the house with the bike on top of the car I think I'll let this pass.

:D

I was prevented from leaving the house this morning due to the "first rule of cycling".

Will probably head out later on the Tarmac if it dries up! :o

Hope you all had a good ride.

Ouch, I bet that wasn't a soft landing :(

Seems like you still have the use of some limbs to type about it, so I presume no lasting damage was done ;)

Ouch!

Incidentally.....I saw on a "major" forum that you might be in contact with someone who has a Horsethief? Have you seen one yet?

It was quite a surprise given how many times I’ve ridden that fine. Happened right where the gulley turns left and there’s a small drop over some roots. I’m sure it looked quite spectacular to the horse riders nearby but it was just a bit of a shock…and filled my pockets and gloves with soil.

The guy with the Horsethief rides locally so might see him out riding. I considered many bikes but went with the 429. Should make a nice XC bike to go with the Stumpjumper but some parts had to be poached.

My thoughts on the Horsethief are much like the Stumpjumper. Both designs require a shock that is going to deliver a well controlled movement. Neither a Kashima RP23 or Brain can deliver that without hindering bump absorption, either with the use of excessive air pressure, platform damping or rebound damping. A Monarch Plus would do the job if you can be bothered.

The 429’s DW Link suspension is excellent in every way. Just needs a little work on the rest of the setup.

My rear hub didn't take long to fix in the end - if only i'd had the right tools in the car...

Also that answers the question of what to use the extra capacity in my MULE for when it turns up this week
