What Christmas gifts did you get this year?

Welcome to 2009. Long term readers will remember last year’s advice for upgrading to the new year included the thought that there was a whole extra day. This year, in keeping with the world’s straitened circumstances, no such luck but we did get a leap second at midnight. I hope you used it wisely.

Even so, there’s always something to look forward to.

If any of you are like me then your Christmas and birthday wish lists often come with a fair percentage of bike–related paraphernalia. This Christmas was no exception, which means I have a fair number of new products lined up for review in the coming weeks!

Top of my list was an Embers Merino base layer, followed by a Blackburn Mars 4.0 rear light, some white ODI lock–on grips and some Sombrio Rogue shorts. Added to a Middleburn Slickshift Hardcote middle ring that I had to buy for my On–one it means I have quite a list of product reviews coming up in the next few weeks.

Aside from Colin’s imminent Dialled Bikes Alpine and Jem’s new build, what other bits of mountain bike kit and components did readers get this Christmas? Anything worth closer investigation?

Now, over to you…

Matt, that’s a nice diverse bunch of new stuff to get all muddy and sweaty real soon. Been using those grips myself since I built up the Soul and have been as impressed as you can with grips I suppose.

Unusually my Christmas wish list wasn’t mtb dominated this year but I did still managed to get a new pair of dhb Merston (non bib) tights, some SealSkinz gloves and a new Buff — all very functional but not shall we say very bling I’m afraid. New tights seem to be very well fitting and warm — only tried once since Xmas.

Well I hadn’t planned on getting or needing anything. However, after Lee insisted on us going swimming with the bikes a few weeks back I’ve needed a new bottom bracket and some rear hub bearings for the 29er.

Granted the “need” actually got converted into a Deore chainset complete with bottom bracket but that’s LBS stock holding for you! I did learn a lot about bearings though after having to replace the bearings in the Dog Hub.

Oooo, and I’ve ordered a new stem!!

I took Dave’s advice and put an Airbike P7 SL2 front light at the top of my Christmas list. I’ve also ordered a TrustFire TR801 Flashlight as a helmet light — hopefully that will arrive this week.

Then I’m all out of excuses for not trying some Weds night–riding.
