Muddymoles mountain biking in the Surrey Hills and Mole Valley

Box Hill blocked near Rykas

Maison du Velo tree down at Box Hill
Just a quick note – which may already be out of date – but the Old London Road at Box Hill was blocked near Rykas on Thursday by a fallen tree.

Maison du Velo posted the above picture on their Maison du Velo Instagram feed on Thursday, following a strong storm overnight on Wednesday. Sadly, I can’t confirm it’s still a problem, as I haven’t had the chance to check.

I was actually mountain biking on Thursday evening and came down Bukkake Alley to the Old London Road near Juniper Hall.

Unfortunately, I decided to turn right and not left. Had I turned left toward WestHumble I might have been able to confirm if the tree was still there but I wasn’t aware of the potential problem at the time. It does perhaps help explain why the road was particularly quiet as I headed towards Mickleham Village!

Incidentally, if you’re in Reigate and want a decent lunch, then Maison du Velo serve the best Avocado and Scrambled Egg on toast around – and their coffee is pretty decent too!

An early On-One Inbred still lurks in the back of the stable as a reminder of how things have moved on. You can even find him on road bikes - currently a 2019 Cannondale Topstone 105 SE, a much-used 2011 Specialized Secteur and very niche belt drive Trek District 1.

If you've ever wondered how we got into mountain biking and how the MuddyMoles started, well wonder no more.

Road was clear yesterday morning 19/01, although still some tree to be cleared from the side and footpath.

  2. Lloyd says:

I went past on the way up Box Hill on Friday and it had been cleared already – i did not even notice any leftovers on the side of the road. Lucky it did not catch anyone or anything went it went down
