Ride report – Wednesday 15 July – Abinger again

With Chief Mole Web Guru and Master of the Passwords feeling sorry for himself in bed, it was a small dedicated band of Moles that turned out for an unpublished ride.

Jem and I found a slightly worried Andy sitting by the garage thinking he was going solo but JohnR and MattS turned up as well to complete the party.

Nothing like last week I told them all, so lets head over to Abba Zabba and see what it’s like after the rain. Going was softer than of late but we got stuck in and were soon blasting along Badger Run and Collar Bone making good progress.

At Abba Zabba it was apparent that a surface layer of mud wasn’t making conditions ideal. MattS wasn’t giving up though and headed down clearing the tree and heading out of sight. “THUMP”, “Are you ok?” we shouted. The adverse camber had got him just out of site, nothing more than a few scrapes and the chain coming off.

Blind Terror 2 and again MattS lead the way and again just out of site there was a loud “thump”. Same story really. Over at Numbskull I went into the drop blind and whooped all the way down and round the berm. Walking back I found the Moles peering over the edge and Jem and Matt soon followed and I think we all rode the roots.

Another blast back with a slightly soft tyre beginning to worry me we headed for McPhersons Mount, managing a full clearance before backtracking and JohnR Showed us a new route back up to the car park.

Final run back the way we came and home before 10:30 with my tyre finally giving up the ghost.

Now, over to you…

With all the lightning & rain tonight it’s a good thing we were out on Weds and not Thursday.

    Great ride, Dave.

Really enjoyed the ride again last night. Whilst not on the scale of the Newlands corner jaunt we must have covered 15 miles or so, so not a bad outing.

I was very pleased to be able to clear McPhersons – a first for me. Maybe the weeks spent slogging away at the back of the pack are finally starting to pay off!

On another note i thought the countryside around the Surrey Hills looked fab tonight. As I said to Jem I reckon you guys take it too much for granted – and that’s coming from someone who hails from ‘God’s own country’ !

I agree with you Andy the screnery was stunning on Wednesday evening. We are extremely Lucky to have such varied trails on our doorstep.

Well done for getting up McPhersons Mount, the folly next time.

    Scenery!!

4 out of 10. Could try harder on his spelling though.
